Biography

Dr. Charith Jayasekara is a Lecturer (Asst. Professor) Education Focused in the Department of Human-Centred Computing (HCC) at the Faculty of Information Technology, Monash University. He is also the Duputy Course Director of Masters of Computer Science (Monash Online). He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering from Monash University, where his research focused on the design of ultra-fast nano-electronic devices. He also holds a First Class Honours degree in Electrical and Information Engineering from the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka.

Dr. Jayasekara plays a leading role in teaching across the computing curriculum, including large-scale foundational and advanced units such as Operating Systems, Computer Architecture, Computer Networks, and Distributed Computing. He serves as Chief Examiner and Lead Lecturer for several units and is deeply committed to enhancing student learning outcomes through inclusive pedagogies, real-world problem-solving, and evidence-informed assessment design. His teaching approach is centered on active student engagement and the use of modern educational technologies to promote critical thinking and problem-solving.

His research interests are primarily in computing education, where he focuses on the design and impact of problem-solving assessments (PSAs), particularly their role in supporting student engagement, learning outcomes, and academic integrity. He is also leading projects exploring the use of Generative AI (GenAI) in learning and teaching, with an emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in digital learning environments.

Beyond education, Dr. Jayasekara conducts interdisciplinary research spanning quantum computing, data-driven engineering, and sustainable technologies. His current work in quantum computing explores the development and optimisation of quantum algorithms and simulation models, particularly those based on Feynman Path Integral methods. This research aims to bridge quantum physics and computational engineering, contributing to advancements in quantum software frameworks, algorithmic efficiency, and quantum-classical hybrid simulations for emerging quantum hardware.

Dr. Jayasekara is an active professional with significant contributions to the field. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), a Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE), a Certified Professional Member of the Australian Computer Society (MACS CP), and a Professional Member of Engineers Australia (MIEAust).

Dr. Jayasekara has extensive entrepreneurial experience as the founder and principal consultant at Unify-Tech Solutions Pty Ltd, a company that provides IT and engineering services, including software architecture, cloud systems, content management systems, e-commerce platforms, and mobile applications. He has also contributed to curriculum development and the integration of modern assessment methods in educational settings.
