Abstract
The reaction of bis(diphenylphosphanylcyclopentadienyl)-ytterbium(ii) with tungsten hexacarbonyl in tetrahydrofuran yields [Yb(THF)3(C5H4 PPh2) 2W(CO)4]·0.5THF (1), whilst [Yb(THF)(C5H4PPh2)2 (μ-OC)W(CO)3} (2) is obtained from toluene. Complex 1 contains nine-coordinate bis(η5-diphenylphosphanylcyclopentadienyl)tris (tetrahydrofuran)-ytterbium(II) units. Complex 2 has eight-coordinate ytterbium(II) with one carbonyl group showing an iso-carbonyl linkage to ytterbium (W∼C≡O-Yb), thereby forming a structure of infinite chains, The Yb(η5-C5H4PPh2)2 units in both 1 and 2 bind to tungsten through the phosphorus atoms giving an octahedral cis-W(CO)4P2 arrangements.
