Abstract
X-ray photoemission spectroscopy has been used to study the influence of electron bombardment on lead arachidate [(C19H39COO)2Pb] Langmuir-Blodgett filias deposited on Cu and oxide-covered Si substrates. Growth of the metal component in the Pb 4f7/2 spectrum is clearly seen, indicating reduction of Pb2+ in lead arachidate to metallic lead. Langmuir-Blodgett films of fatty acid metal salts may thus be used as precursors for obtaining metal cluster films for catalyst and device applications.
