Water model study of inclusion removal in a swirling flow tundish

Aiming to remove the non-metallic inclusions in tundish well, a swirling chamber was set in tundish to promote inclusion floatation, collision, coalescence and removal. Water model experiment of inclusion removal in a swirling flow tundish was carried out. The variations of flotation rate of inclusions with swirling chamber diameter, height, inlet flow rate, poison, particle sizes and quantity were studied. The experimental results showed that the inclusion floation rate of swirling flow tundish was higher than that of a tundish without swirling chamber. The flotation rate of inclusions with small size was improved by about 10%.
