Abstract

Any reference work that attempts to cover the expansive field of fashion and dress studies faces an almost insurmountable task of identifying and organizing potential subject matter. Yet series editor Joanne B. Eicher and her international team of experts have excelled in their account of the multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural forms of fashion, dress, and adornment. That this is a worldwide study, from prehistory to the present day, makes the achievement of the Berg Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion all the more remarkable. In Volume 10: Global Perspectives, Eicher compiles well-researched and information-rich articles that consolidate the geographic approaches explored in the nine other volumes of the series, analyzing dress and fashion practices from Asia, Africa, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and the Oceanic region.
