Abstract

Dye flow visualization is utilized to qualitatively study the structure of the flow behind a finite span, pitching and heaving, airfoil. The flow is investigated for different combinations of Strouhal number, pitch amplitude and values of the phase angle between pitching and heaving. The evolution and interaction of vortex structures, which form behind the airfoil, are examined in detail for one period of the pitching/heaving motion.
