Abstract

The infrared spectra (380-40 cm-1) of the triphenylphosphine (L) complexes L2MX2 and (LHgX2)2, M = Zn, Cd, or Hg; X = Cl, Br, or I, have been recorded. Assignments are proposed for the M-X stretching, XMX bending, and M-P stretching frequencies of the L2MX2 complexes, and the terminal Hg-X stretching frequencies of the (LHgX2)2 complexes. The M-P stretching frequencies are at ∼160 cm-1 (M = Zn); ∼135 cm-1 (M = Cd); and ∼130 and 105 cm-1 (M = Hg), but they could not be identified for the (LHgX2)2 complexes.
