Abstract
The vermilion can present with pathologies which may affect the oral mucosae as well as cutaneous epithelium. Unlike the intraoral mucosae, the vermilion receives considerable UV exposure. A wide variety of contributory aetiologies can present as chronic, recurrent or widespread mucosal and submucosal changes to the vermilion including frictional trauma, infective causes, UV-related changes, immune-mediated disease, contact irritation and allergic reactions as well as granulomatous disease.
