Abstract

This chapter has described the impact of research on healthcare and the implications for practice. Practice development as one methodology supporting the translation of research to practice and as a research generation technique has been described. The development of evidence-based practice guidelines that are inclusive of qualitative as well as quantitative research was highlighted as affirmation of changed views regarding quality research. Healthcare must be underpinned by quality research that provides for investigation of the human condition irrespective of research bias, context or the healthcare professionals providing the service.
