Ultra-high resolution capillary gas chromatography (GC) using cryogenic modulation was investigated. The longitudinally modulated cryogenic system (LMCS) used in the GC allows the solute within a capillary GC column to be trapped and then very rapidly remobilized in a one-step process. The new analysis opportunities offered by the LMCS depend primarily upon the ability to resolve on the second column components that are unresolved on the first column.
