Abstract

Psychology garners significant popularity among high school students, with many opting to study it further at university. Undergraduate Psychology can complement a diverse range of pursuits - the first-year Psychology program at Monash University boasts a large cohort of just over 1600 students hailing from various disciplines like Science, Education, Law, Arts, and Business. As an educator of both high-school and university-level Psychology, I have observed and mentored many students as they make the transition from secondary to tertiary-level Psychology. In my presentation, I will explore the connections between secondary Psychology curriculums and undergraduate-level Psychology, and how we can best capitalise on these connections. I will also provide insights on how educators can empower students to navigate the transition from Year 12 to first-year university Psychology. By equipping them with the essential skills, knowledge, and confidence required for success in this field, we can actively foster the pursuit of Psychology among our young people - a pursuit that is not only desirable but also crucial in meeting the evolving needs of our society.
