Abstract
Resilience has become a focal point in the horizon of design education. How can design educators train aspiring designers to be resilient? This chapter presents a speculative design education pathway for aspiring designers to develop competencies orientated within the context of Australian education. The chapter also considers resilience and its malleability as a high-level competency within a tertiary design education. Through provocation, the essay recognises that there exists no one-size-fits-all approach to teaching the disciplinary skills associated with design in combination with resilience. The backbone of the design education pathway is a competence model framework for cultivating resilient design education curriculums, and the author offers a rationale for the need to change design education through the lens of resilience.
