Abstract

Basic issues related to the use of polymeric membranes as separation agents have been addressed. Analytical and Internet-based tools have been used to assist students in gaining intution into the performance of gas separation membranes. An interesting calculation has been made to compare capital and operating costs for a cryogenic air-separation plant and a membrane-separation plant. The effect of new membrane material's development on such separation processes has also been explored.
