Abstract

The rules for manipulation of the Hindu-Arabic numerals 1, 2, 3, ... and 0, otherwise known as algorism, became widely used in the West through Latin translation of Arabic from about the 12th century. Our principal Latin manuscript is Cambridge University Library Ms. Ii.vi.5. This manuscript has been published by Vogel and Yushkevich, but we present the first English translation. We have added a short introduction.
