Abstract

An analytical model is proposed to evaluate the pile skin friction at the pile-soil interface and analyze P-s curve of single pile. The model is based on the exponential transfer function technique and allows back-analysis to be carried out easily. The calculated skin friction results is in good agreement with the measured ones and the accuracy of the proposed method has been verified by an example in Xiao et al.'s (2002) work. Then the transfer model is implemented into differential equation of pile-soil interaction, and after being iterated by computer simulation, the calculated P-s curve is in very good agreement with the results of Xiao et al. (2002) and Carrubba (1997). Parameters are initially obtained from lab experiment and subsequently modified by fitting the Carrubba's (1997) pile head displacements to computer simulation.
