Abstract

The VLCR annual report provides a broad panel of indicators that describe structure, process and outcome quality measures for individuals recently diagnosed with lung cancer in Victoria. The report is provided on an annual basis and aims to provide institutions with a contemporaneous measure of management to inform stakeholders of progress in clinically important areas of staging, diagnosis and management. The provision of risk-adjusted, population-based measures enables evaluation of institutional activity against the broader activity experienced by patients treated in Victorian hospitals. Reports may be used for internal evaluation of institutional activity by local and regional governance and funding bodies, institutional and regional administrative bodies and clinicians engaged in lung cancer care delivery. Indicator performance needs to be evaluated in light of benchmark performance, and institutional and community expectation. It is important to note indicators with low numbers must be interpreted with caution.
