Abstract
An X-ray crytallographic study has shown that the complex (p-HC6F4)2TlCl-(OPPH3) is dimetric with unsymmetrical chlorine bridging (TlCl 2.541 Å TlCl' 2.936 Å) and five coordinate thallium atoms. The stereochemistry of each thallium is approximately trigonal bipyramidal, the equatorial positions being occupied by two carbon atoms and the more tightly held chlorine. Similar structures are likely for (p-HC6F4)2TlBr(OPPh3) and (C6F5)2TIX(OPPh3) (X Br or Cl).
