Abstract

The dipole moments of cis- and trans-tricarbonyl-(2-cyanoindane)chromium have been measured. The results indicate that in both isomers the cyano-group prefers a pseuodo-equatorial conformation. 2-Cyano-5,6-dibromo-indane has been synthesised but its measured moment gives no clear indication of a preference for either the pseudo-equatorial or pseudo-axial conformation by the cyano-group.
