Abstract
Traditionally, organizations have made substantial investments into enterprise systems seeking innovation. However, there is anecdotal commentary on organizations shifting their focus to digital technologies such as social, mobile, analytics and cloud computing seeking opportunities to innovate. Considering this contentious modern technology landscape, this study investigates the role of ES in innovation. Using data gathered from four case organizations, the study highlights that the organizations innovate using their digital technologies and enterprise systems act as a platform that enable innovation. The study also highlights the barriers for enterprise systems-led innovations.
