Abstract

This paper examines the behaviour of two elasto-plastic fracture parameters which characterize the severity of a crack tip stress/strain field under large scale yielding. It is shown that, after unloading, the strain energy density in front of the crack tip is initially out of phase with respect to the external work. This phenomenon is also found to occur during the cold expansion of a fastener hole.
