Abstract
The roles of carbon, cementite precipitation and substitutional alloying elements on the kinetics of the bainitic transformation in steels were examined. A kinetic model describing the overall transformation including the nucleation and growth steps was developed. The experimental results showed that the model overestimated the maximum fraction of bainite obtained after cooling. Also, the final volume fraction was overestimated, and the transformation kinetics into lower bainite was expected to be slower than that predicted by the model.
