Abstract

The common theme in the amp; 145;reforms amp; 146; outlined in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa is the tug-of-war between proponents of a labour market that is totally flexible and unregulated, and which allows both employers and employees to make their own choices to do what they wish, and, at the other end, those who advocate intervention into almost every activity of employer and employee in the workplace. If pushed to the extreme, neither position is sustainable over time on its own.
