Abstract

About 20 of Australian adolescents have been recognized as having anxiety and depression. Congenital heart disease (CHD) may have an additional impact on the adolescent?s emotional status, previously demonstrated in adults with CHD. Although outcomes have continued to improve following advances in cardiac surgical and catheter interventions, the negative impact of CHD remains. An altered body image such as an operation scar or a dysmorphic appearance might lead to additional psychosocial problems
