The introduction of catheter-based radiofrequency renal sympathetic denervation to clinical medicine has been considered to be a promising new avenue to the future device-based therapy of hypertension. Renal sympathetic efferent and afferent nerves located in the adventitia of the renal artery are the target of this procedure. On the basis of their crucial role in development and maintenance of systemic hypertension, renal sympathetic nerves have long been considered to be an attractive target for neuromodulation therapy .
