Abstract

Grid modernization aims to create positive changes in the energy landscape and to provide significant benefits to communities and the energy sector. This requires the establishment of energy interactions between multiple carriers, which will improve the efficiency of the system, particularly in the presence of renewable energy sources (RESs). To realize grid modernization, there is a need to transform different sectors of the grid from the generation sector to the transportation and energy demand side. In this respect, recent advancements in intelligent devices offer tremendous opportunities for modernizing the transportation sector. However, integrating the transportation network with multi-energy units is critical for realizing green economy goals. This chapter aims to inspect the necessity for modernizing the coupled structure of intelligent transportation systems (ITSs) and multi-energy networks.
