Abstract

This brief commentary on focuses on Catalonia’s claim for statehood. I examine the nature of the Catalan people’s claim. Prominent supporters of Catalonian independence have stated that only statehood can protect the Catalan people. The regional government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya- the “Generalitat”) expressed a similar view in its official report on the issue of statehood.
