Abstract
Background: Australian occupational therapy has a long and productive track record in the conduct and dissemination of high quality research. Being a researcher today, however, can be a dichotomy. On one hand, a greater number of occupational therapists identify with being a researcher, technology enables collaboration like never before, and knowledge transfer, data collection and publishing across states, nationally and internationally has never been easier. On the other hand, they are working in the most competitive research environment ever known, particularly related to research grants.
Objective: This panel will provide an opportunity to hear from successful occupational therapy researchers across the breadth of our profession; clinician-researchers, academic-researchers, educator-researchers, fellowship holders, and grant-holders.
Method/Approach: Panellists will candidly share their pathways, roles, and top tips for people at all stages in their research career. There will then be 15 minutes for questions from the floor, before the moderator will summarise what has been discussed.
Discussion/Outcomes: Panel members will address the rewards of research as well as the importance of establishing partnerships and collaborations, sourcing funds, disseminating results, and translating findings to shape occupational therapy practice and education. Lessons learned and opportunities for both beginning and growing in your research career will be covered.
