Abstract

The presence of numerous adrenergic nerve fibres in the costo-uterine muscle of the guinea-pig has been confirmed in this study and it has been demonstrated that these originate predominantly from the ovarian nerve. It has been shown that the smooth muscle cells of the costo-uterine muscle possess adrenoceptors, however electrical stimulation of the ovarian perivascular bundle or transmural stimulation of the tissue failed to elicit a postjunctional response that could be attributed unequivocally to release of adrenergic transmitter.
