Abstract
It is typical for experienced science teachers to have moved through major shifts in priorities in their work- broadly, shifts from a focus on curriculum and teaching to a focus on student learning. This book series, too, has moved through such shifts. In the first book, our concern was the re-emergence of values in the science curriculum, particularly in terms of policy and implementation issues. In the second book our focus was on exploring what expert science education knowledge and practices may look like in the emerging 'bigger picture' of the re-emergence of values in science education. the third volume shifted to assessment, and its relationship to and impact on policy, curriculum, practice and, of course, learning. In this fourth book in the series, our focus moves to be centrally on learning.
