Abstract
A brief history of the development of spectrum
analysis, beginning with the pioneering discoveries of
Bunsen and Kirchoff in 1860, was the subject of Part
6 of this series (see November issue, p. 24). Although
no new chemistry resulted from their activities, two
men in Colonial Australia showed a keen interest in
spectrum analysis in the 1860s. This is their story.
