Abstract
Based on multiple fieldworks done with visiting students and professors from Korea, this book aims to demonstrate how the spatial composition of Brno reflect the theoretical and practical concepts of urban communication.
This book aims to introduce the research concept of urban communication by exemplifying communicative designs and places of Brno in the Czech Republic. The first chapter broadly introduces the interdisciplinary concept of urban communication as an emerging research field. This chapter mainly demonstrates how communication studies and urban sociology are integrated into this research area. The second chapter delves into walking as the main means of urban communication. It introduces the concept of walkability, followed by the essential conditions of walkability. The third chapter applies various factors of communicative cities into diverse places of Brno. This chapter presents many places that are designed to boost communications between humans and between humans and infrastructures. The fourth chapter as a conclusive chapter discusses the limitation of the concept, various uncommunicative barriers in urban spaces, and the ever-changing urban landscapes amid the influx of migrants.
