Abstract
A novel method for preparation of ZrF4 is described which makes use of molten ammonium bifluoride as the fluorinating agent. A variety of metal salts can be used in this procedure. There are several advantages in using this method compared with previously described methods for the preparation of ZrF4, including complete reaction and mild reaction conditions which allow the use of contamination free fluoropolymer apparatus.
