Abstract

This paper deals with a set of polysulfones in which certain phenylene hydrogens are replaced by groups of different polarity and bulkiness. Given the influence of substitution on transport properties, the analysis focuses on modification of the aromatic rings by nitration or phthalimidomethylation of BPAPSE. Amino and aminomethyl substituents were also afforded by reduction of nitro groups and hydrazinolysis of nitrated and phthalimidomethylated polymers, respectively. Preliminary gas transport data of these modified polysulfones for CO2, CH4, N2 and O2 are given.
