abstract = "The use of multi detector SEC for the determination of the functionality (number of arms) of PMMA star polymers, made using ATRP and a core first technique is described. Multifunctional 3-arm, 5-arm, 8-arm and 21-arm initiators were used for the polymerisation of MMA to result in star polymers with narrow dispersity when the reaction was terminated at low conversion. Use of Zimm and Stockmayer theory with multi-detector SEC, the number of arms on each star polymer has been estimated using the reduction in intrinsic viscosity of a star polymer relative to a linear polymer equivalent.",
