Abstract

Organoytterbium(III) complexes [(η-C5H5)2)YbX] (X = O2CMe, O2CC6F5, O2CC5H4N, Cl, Br, I, CCPh, C6F5, (MeCO)2CH, (PhCO)2CH) have been synthesized in high yield from [η-C5H5)2]Yb(MeOCH2)2] and the corresponding HgX2, TlX, AgX2 or CuX species. An X-ray diffraction study of the pentafluorobenzoate has shown it to be dimeric, with a somewhat unsymmetrical bridging carboxylate.
