Abstract
This paper presents a study of the performance of two parking-lot layouts for various demand and capacity conditions. It highlights the advantages offered by the use of a model, PARKSIM, to investigate systematically the quality of service offered by a parking lot to parkers. The paper presents a practical application of research into parking systems design. Its sections introduce the concept of 'level of service', then describe the model and the parking-lot layouts to be studied. It then discusses a number of dimensions of 'level of service' for each layout.
