Abstract
This study was carried out by applying regression design with a mixed burden to the blast furnace. The influence of the MgO content on the fusion temperature of slag is determined by the Al//2O//3 content. The fusion point of slag increase with slag basicity and MgO content. For a given Al//2O//3 content in slag, there is an allowable maximum MgO content correspondently. The replacement effect on the desulfurization of CaO and MgO is dependent on the SiO//2 content in slag. When SiO//2 greater than 41. 1%, if MgO is used instead of CaO, Ls would increase. Otherwise this would not be the case. The appropriate MgO content in the blast furnace slag is determined by actual operating conditions, such as the combinations of high Al//2O//3-high MgO content, high Al//2O//3-low MgO content, and low Al//2O//3-high MgO content.
