Abstract
The study of dynamic uniaxial compressive strength of granite at strain rate from 10-4 to 100 s-1 is conducted using sliding crack model. It is shown that the theoretical strengths increase with increasing strain rate and agree well with the experimental results. It is suggested that crack growth velocity and the rate dependence of fracture toughness of rock material result in the strength increment with increasing strain rate.
