Speciation analysis of selenium in natural water using square-wave voltammetry after preconcentration on activated carbon

A simple, accurate, sensitive and selective method was described for rapid detn. of ultra-trace quantities of Se. Se(IV) was collected on activated C (a.c.) after redn. to elemental Se by L-ascorbic acid. The collected Se was then dissolved by oxidn. reaction with bromate in acidic media and was indirectly detd. through the bromide formation using square-wave voltammetry (OSWV). The total amt. of Se(IV) and Se(VI) was collected on a.c. after its redn. by hydrazine. Se in the range 0.01-20 micro g L-1 could be detd. by this method. The method was used to the detn. of Se(IV) and Se(VI) in natural H2O with satisfactory results. [on SciFinder (R)]
