Spacelessness, spatiality and intimate partner violence: technology-facilitated abuse, stalking and justice administration

Technology has provided new spaceless channels for perpetrators of intimate partner violence to enact harm. This chapter explores definitions and dimensions of technology-facilitated abuse and stalking and the importance of adopting a spatial framework in this arena. Spaceless violence transgresses boundaries and borders, but place and space shape experiences of and responses to violence and cannot be overlooked. Devices, digital media and information communication technology can pose risks to victim/survivors in different landscapes – regional, rural and remote places – but also offer opportunities for seeking and providing advocacy, support and administration of justice. The transformative effect of such technologies is considered, with a focus on video-technology in the court setting and body-worn police cameras.
