The 'Smart Support' Report presents a case study of an innovative apprenticeship and traineeship support program offered by a not-for-profit Victorian Group Training company. The case finds that the program represents an important and strategic re-thinking of the traditional role of field officers in supporting apprentices. This shift is important in light of the increasing demands being placed upon vocational education and training (VET) professionals. The evaluation of the program reports that optimising apprenticeship and traineeship completions entails ore than simply monitoring and adding a bit of mentoring here or there. There are important and specialist skills required.
