Abstract
Sleep represents an important, yet often overlooked aspect of physical and psychological health and well-being in older adults. Sleep and circadian disruption are closely tied to a number of comorbid health conditions and represent an important opportunity for intervention with potential to improve long-term outcomes. In this chapter, we provide an overview of common features of sleep and circadian changes in later life, along with their neurobiological underpinnings. We then describe common sleep disorders, approaches to screening for sleep problems and interventions relevant to clinicians working with older adults.
