Abstract
Simulation environments allow efficient data collection and rapid development of HRI systems. They are especially useful when there are safety and/or resource constraints for conducting in-person user studies. However, the sim-to-real (sim2real) gap remains an unsolved issue in HRI, considering the difficulty of incorporating contextual, interactive and human factors in the simulation environment. This chapter examines an example study where a drone landing assistive system for novice pilots is designed and evaluated, first in simulation and then in the physical world.
