N2 - First, as a disclosure of interest, we take the position that it is worth the effort to seek to improve chemical characterization of samples, in this case, using multidimensional separations with comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC) as the prime technology. Of course, it is hard to argue that characterization of compounds in a sample is not important; this underpins all chemical analysis tasks. In stating this, we require suitable justification to support our contention and seek the fundamental nature of the process that leads to our considered opinion.
