Abstract
The modified version of the Rouse model was used to investigate viscometric functions for a dilute polymer solution, undergoing steady simple shear flow. The presence of excluded volume effects was shown to cause the viscosity and the first normal stress difference to decrease with increasing shear rate. The simulation results were used to assess the quality of an approximate solution, obtained by assuming the nonequilibrium distribution function to be Gaussian.
