Abstract
The room-temperature growth of almost phase-pure aragonite needles in radial Hele-Shaw cell was demonstrated. The selection of this polymorph for growth at the interface was shown to be due to AOT molecules present in the organic phase. By judicious choice of the experimental parameters in the Hele-Shaw cell, it was possible to control the degree of recrystallization of aragonite to calcite and thus obtain crystals with hollow, cylindrical morphology.
