This review considers the evidence for endothelialmesenchymal transition (EndoMT) as a mechanism contributing to progressive renal fibrosis in experimental kidney disease, with an emphasis on diabetic nephropathy. Recent findings using genetically tagged endothelial cells are critically discussed, and directions for future studies proposed.
