note = "Funding Information: In recent years there has been substantial investment in building capacity for teletrials in Australia, an experience which may provide useful insights for other jurisdictions. The National Principles for Teletrials in Australia, published by the Commonwealth Department of Health in 2020, specify the adoption of COSA's ATM as the preferred model (a primary site supervises one or more satellite sites located closer to the patient's residence) and nationally agreed terminology. Together with the National Standard Operating Procedures for Clinical Trials, including Teletrials, this forms the Teletrials Compendium, designed to support a consistent national approach to implementation of teletrials in Australia. This includes templates for important documents including the Supervision Plan and Delegation Log. More recently, a capability framework has been developed to support growth and development of clinical trial sites outside metropolitan areas. The Framework identifies six core factors for site development (infrastructure, leadership and culture, organizational support, technologies, staff skills, networks and collaboration). A Capability Maturity Model is applied to evaluate the current clinical trial capability of a satellite site, and provide a guide for site support and development. Such a framework would be helpful in identifying and building capacity in areas unique to respiratory clinical trials. Financial support is currently available to primary and satellite sites through the Teletrial Support Program, funded by the Medical Research Future Fund until October 2026. ",
