Abstract

This chapter will focus on the application of Raman spectroscopy to red blood cell (RBC) research providing a practical approach to methods of cell preparation for Raman spectroscopy and band assignment. The unusual properties of Hb in the highly concentrated environment of the RBC will be discussed and some applications of Raman spectroscopy to RBC analysis will be highlighted.
