Report into the effects of recent amendments to Queensland gambling legislation and regulation

The Queensland government has recently introduced, and has further foreshadowed, a series of regulatory changes via its ‘red tape reduction’ program, targeted towards liberalising the operation of gambling markets and increasing gambling revenue. This report documents the likely individual and cumulative effects of this gambling liberalisation program, with a focus on electronic gambling machine (EGM) gambling. On the basis of the material we have scrutinised there does not appear to have been significant consideration, at least in the public forum, of the likely impact of these changes on the wellbeing of these groups in particular or on the Queensland population in general.
